Apple Bites: Joints

Q: What is a miter joint?

A: A miter joint is used when a bend is not possible and one knife intersects another. This type of joint can also be used when sharp corners are required rather than rounded corners.

Many steel rule dies have joints that are “butt” fitted together, leaving a slight gap in their joints. Here at Apple, we have the ability to braze weld joints, which assists in reducing joint separation commonly caused by materials that force joints apart over time, creating a strong joint.
