Apple Bites: Brazing + Welding

Apple offers both brazing and welding. Learn more about each below.

Q: What is Brazing?

A: Apple will braze the joints of dies in order to prevent material from getting caught in the joints. This is especially helpful when cutting fibrous materials. Unlike welding, brazing is done at the top of the rule at the joint locations.

Q: What is Welding?

A: Steel rule dies are used to cut many, varied materials. Some of these materials are very hard and dense and have the potential to separate the rule at their joints. We use spot welding to prevent rule separation and therefore increase the strength and stability of the die. We also use welding to keep the rule from pulling out of a die. This is accomplished by welding the rule in an area at the backside of the die board.
